“It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it’s not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it’s always there – fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. If you look for it, I’ve got a sneaky feeling you’ll find that love actually is all around.” – Hugh Grant from Love Actually
It’s almost Valentine’s Day! These 10 Cebuanos share their surfire plans of making their love ones (and that include themselves) feel the love on this year’s 14th of February.
“I will take my mom on a brunch date after 8 years of being away and work on the free public cine plaza in Plaza Independencia featuring Cebuano romantic comedy!” –Enrique Dela Rosa San Juan, 29, Business Development Officer Seed4Com (sustainable energy and enterprise development for communities)
“My plan for valentines’ day is to make my boyfriend feel special. I will make him the happiest through my own unique ways. I guess my boyfriend is planning to surprise me because he didn’t tell me what to expect on Valentines’ Day. I can feel it because he made my last year’s valentines’ day an unforgettable one! Whatever plans he will make, it is all up to him because I know it will be more exciting as our love for each other grows and grows every day.” –Jane Nichole Yu, 20, STC
“Feb. 14 is a Saturday, but a regular day class for me (whole day). My plan for that day is to attend my class and afterwards go home with some surprises for my parents and greet them a “Happy Valentines’ Day”.” –Fernan Salibongcogon, 20, USC
“My plan for this Valentine is just simple. I’m going to spend quality time with my love ones, my girlfriend and family. They say Valentine’s Day is a day where people give love to their special someone. But in my opinion, but I think it’s better to let your love ones feel love and affection for 364 days and not only on Feb. 14.” –Ralph Dustin Gica, 18, Indiana Aerospace University
“On Valentine’s day I think I will be waking up at 4am and go to freedom park to buy some bouquet of roses for my mom, sister and my girlfriend. So that I can put it beside their beds before they wake up on the 14th to surprise them. Only because Valentine’s day only happens once a year and this is my way of thanking them for the unconditional love that they have given me even if I am so stubborn at times.” –Janu Escandallo, 20, CIT-U
“I’m caught up between Maribago Blue Waters or Shangri-La. A candle lit dinner by the sea with the girl I’m courting.” –Christian Tenorio, 18, CDU
“Just like Mother’s Day, Teacher’s Day or whatever Day, I find Valentine’s Day nowadays is filled with commercialism that one has to run to the nearest mall to buy presents and flowers. It’s still amusing though to see a young man holding flowers inside a jeep on the way to his girlfriend’s house. But being single for the longest time, I will spend my Valentines in a province somewhere spreading love to those people who need it the most, the poor. And that could probably mean picking up wild flowers somewhere and give it to a mother or a young girl in random.” –Noel Galang, 33, Photographer and advocate
“Since college started, I have been a proud single lady so does my friends. We celebrate every Vday with a barkada date. The hopeless romantic, pragmatic, pessimist, realist, who-cares-type, and (of course) the bitter one gather around to enjoy the company of strong independent individuals.” –Channien Llavore, 20, USJR
“My girlfriend has her MT Tour in manila, so I bought a plane ticket & booked a hotel in Ermita. I’ll be doing a surprise stunt when I get there. I’m planning to buy a Ferrero chocolate bouquet for props.” –Ken Danlag, 20
“I’ll actually be working on Valentine’s. I’m going to Manila for a Valentine’s show featuring one of my favorite artists- the American acoustic duo This Wild Life, so, I’m pretty sure this beats any date I could possibly ever have.” –Tony Alfonso, 21, MYTV’s Weekend Warriors Host
